This is a fun, easy read. Give it a few chapters and the pace really picks up. I'd call it a page turner, but I got it on the Kindle so more of a screen tapper. You care about the lead character despite his obvious faults which is not always an easy thing to achieve. For a story that touches on the paranormal it's quite believable in an exciting way. Some nice plot twists as the story unravels. Recommended!

When I made my selection of this book, I thought I'll read a few pages and decide if it's worth reading and if not I'll just move on to something else quickly. It turned out to be one of those books I couldn't put down. I'll leave all details out but I certainly recommend it!
A thoroughly good read. The contrast between the contemporary story of two young people from different cultures being prevented from marrying, and the civil war experience of two young lovers forced apart by their feuding families, gives a rich texture to the story. When the two narratives begin to connect, we enter a paranormal world which challenges conventional views of who we really are. Definitely recommended.
An intriguing story that follows the trials and tribulations of a discredited journalist who is sacked for phone hacking. As his life disintegrates around him, he is drawn back to his ancestral home where the past and the present seem to fuse into one. The central theme of the story is that memory can be stored within the fabric of an old building and can be brought back to life by someone linked to that past. As past and present become entwined, the story takes on a dramatic twist as the journalist tries to prevent a crime that spans centuries. This is an imaginative and fast paced story with highly credible characters. Very difficult to put down.
This book works on a number of different levels. At one level it paints a sad but engaging picture of a worn out journalist who has lost his moral direction. On another level it’s an adventure story which links a murder during the English Civil war with a contemporary love story. At first I was worried that the different strands wouldn’t connect - but they do. Very entertaining read with a great storyline. Good to find another author I can enjoy reading. If you like paranormal mysteries, give this one a try.
I found the story compelling and couldn't put the book down. Set in mysterious Cornwall, an area known to harbour specters of the past, a disgraced news reporter finds himself becoming part of the past and finding who he really is and what really matters in his life.
The Voice Within is a thoroughly enjoyable read.

It's hard to categorise and that's partly what makes it so great in this era of tightly packaged, predictable genre fiction. I loved that there was a mixture of paranormal events, a thriller-ish feel, intriguing love stories and contemporary societal themes threaded throughout the narrative. It's a really unique novel.

The main character of Douglas is tangibly real. At first, I found him frustrating and slightly unpleasant, prone to angry outbursts, but as the story evolved, so did he and the reader realises that he's a very complex character with a good heart who's makes mistakes like the rest of us.
